BIO.
Hello!
I am very passionate and excited about my second year as a 3rd grade teacher! I taught 3rd grade last year and in my student teaching I taught grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Prior to my teaching career I worked in various law firms as a legal assistant, for over ten years. I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelor's in Applied Science with a minor in pre-law. I had plans of going to law school but after so many years of going to school and working in a law firm, I started to second guess my plans. I decided to take a break from my legal work and was hired in an elementary school as an Aide. I worked there for only half of a school year and quickly realized what my calling was! With no time to waste, I applied and was accepted into Arizona State University's iTeach Graduate Program. I am blessed to have this career, I truly am grateful for all of the challenges and rewards I have received. I look forward to the teaching journey I have ahead of me!
I am originally from California but consider myself a native of Arizona because I moved down here at the age of eight. I love to travel and one of my favorite destinations thus far is Cancun, Mexico. I hope to one day travel to Europe and visit Spain, Italy and Greece! I am happily married to a firefighter and have an adorable Maltese dog named Rocky.
My philosophy of teaching is to reinforce the positiveness in students in order for them to maximize their fullest potential. I strive to do this by providing structure, holding them accountable to a high academic standard and being available to support them with the necessary tools they need in order to be successful. Every child is a unique individual, therefore not every child learns exactly the same way. It is my job to get to know my students so that I can engage them in their own learning. This type of learning comes from having a student centered classroom with collaboration, higher level discussions, open-ended questioning, a variety of resources, purposeful procedures, a strong sense of community and most importantly encouragement, structure, love and catholic faith.
